Our Colourful World
This is Billy and Splodge. Billy and Splodge are in a spaceship. They are looking for animals in space.
Splodge sees a planet.
Everything on this planet is red. Look at this forest. The trees are red, and the leaves are red. But
there aren’t any animals here.
Splodge sees another planet.
Everything on this planet is yellow. Look at the yellow sky, and the yellow clouds. There is a yellow
volcano too. Look at the yellow smoke! There aren’t any animals here.
Now Splodge sees another planet.
Everything on this planet is pink. Look at the pink sea. There are pink shells and pink plants in the
sea. There aren’t any animals here.
Splodge sees another planet.
Everything on this planet is blue. This planet is very hot. There is a big blue sea, and a desert with
blue sand. And Look! There are blue plants. There aren’t any animals here.
Splodge sees one more planet.
Everything on this planet is green. This planet is very cold. The clouds are green, and
he snow is green. There aren’t any anim…
Billy is in the spaceship. Splodge, there are animals in space. Let’s go home!
Splodge sees another planet. It’s planet Earth. The sky is blue, and the sun is yellow. The grass is
green, and the flowers are red and pink. What colours can you see?

The Hungry Dragon
The Hungry Dragon
Deep in the mountains lived a dragon.
Every hundred years he wakes up.
He is very hungry.
“I want some breakfast,” he said.
He went down the mountains to the village.
He saw a boy. “Yum, a boy for breakfast!”
“Don’t eat me!” Said Sia. “I’ll give you some food.”
Sia took the dragon to his house.
He ate three plates of chicken and rice.
“I’m still hungry,” said the dragon.
Sia gave the dragon more food.
He ate five plates of noodles and ten sausages.
He was still hungry!
They went to the restaurant.
The dragon ate twenty meatballs and fifty fish balls with twelve plates of sticky rice.
After that he ate six puddings and a cake.
He was still hungry.
They went to the shop.
The dragon ate all the fruit and vegetables – mangoes and cabbages, tomatoes, mushrooms and
beans.
He was still a bit hungry.
Sia looked in his pocket.
There was one sweet.
He gave the sweet to the dragon.
The dragon exploded!
“Hooray!” Shouted Sia. The dragon is gone – no more boys for breakfast!”

The cold planet
The Cold Planet
Thousands of miles from Earth, on the far side of the universe, is a small planet. It is dark and cold,
far from the sun, behind a much bigger planet. Little green aliens live there. They use torches to see.
One day, a young alien, Neila, put the wrong batteries in her torch. Suddenly there was a dazzling
beam of light. It went up into the sky, around the Sun, and hit planet Earth.
The light hit a boy called Billy and his dog, Splodge. Neila quickly turned the torch off, but the pair
were sucked up by the light. They flew through space and landed near Neila.
“Hello”, said Billy. Neila waved.
“Wow”, said Billy. “Everything’s made of ice cream!” Splodge licked his paw. “The ice cream never
melts, and nobody eats it. It’s too cold here,” said Neila.
“It will in my tummy,” thought Splodge.
Neila looked sad. “Can you help us?” she said. “We need sunshine to make things grow.”
“No problem,” said Billy. “Can you get us home? I have an idea.”
“Wait there!” said Neila.
She got her torch, put the wrong batteries in again. ZOOOOOOOOM!
Billy and Splodge were speeding back to Earth.
Billy pointed his bedroom mirror between the sun and Fliptune. The sun’s rays bounced off the mirror
and up onto Neila’s planet.
Thanks to Billy, Fliptune is not cold any more. Splodge moves the mirror each day to keep the sun
shining there. Now, Neila and her friends sit in the sun and enjoy all that free ice cream.

The Greedy Hippo
There was a greedy hippo. He ate everything in sight.
From cheese to peas, chips and cake, he always had a bite.
Now Hippo he was selfish. He ate everybody’s food.
He ate the cat’s, the dog’s, the cow’s. He was very, very rude.
One morning after breakfast, he jumped into the lake.
One big splash and he was stuck. That was a big mistake.
The hippo he sank deeper, then began to shout.
“Help, please help, I’m sinking. Won’t someone pull me out?”
The animals all pulled and pulled, as hard as they were able.
Out he popped, ran past them all, and ate everything on their table.
The animals were angry, and thought they’d play a trick.
They made a pie from fish and soap to make old Hippo sick.
“Here you are, we’ve made a pie, especially for you.”
“Thanks,” he said, “I’ll eat it now. I’ve nothing else to do.”
First a nibble, then a bite, then a great big swallow.
He then went back into the lake, the place he loved to wallow.
But something wasn’t right, thought Hippo, “I feel quite odd inside.”
Now he had a tummy ache as the cooks looked on with pride.
Hippo learnt his lesson. It was the end of all their troubles.
He was last seen leaving town, blowing fishy bubbles.
