TV as one of the tools used by humans to obtain information from actual news
reports is a technology, which is important
for us to know how the development from the
past until now.
The development of television in Indonesia is fast.
Along with the
progress of printed media,
the other media appears
as a source of information for the public, that electronic
media starts from
color TV to internet
technology. Such as newspaper, this time almost
everyone had a television in
their homes. Television is a
broadcast image catcher
tool. The word television
comes from the
word "tele" and "vision"
which has the meaning of each remote (tele) and
looks (vision). So
television means visible or can be seen from a
distance. Television is paralleled with the discovery of the wheel, because
this discovery could change the world civilization. In Indonesia 'television'
is not formally called the TV, tivi, TV or tipi.
Broadcast television programs in general are
universal, but their primary function
remains the entertainment. Even if there are programs that contain terms of information
and education, is
only as a complement in order to meet the needs of human nature (Effendi,
2004).
The most important innovation contained in television is the ability to present comments or observations
directly while an
event takes place. However,
please note that many
public events have
been planned in advance, the additional levels of actuality is
also limited (McQuail, 1996).
Television media in Indonesia
is no longer a luxury item. The glass screen
media now has
become one of the basic necessities
for the community to get the information. In
other words, the information is
already part of the human right to self-actualization.
Television broadcasting activities in Indonesia
began on August 24, 1962, coinciding with the
opening of the conduct of the
Games IV Asia or Asean Games in Senayan. Since then,
Televisi Republik Indonesia, abbreviated TVRI used
as call status
until now. During
1962-1963 TVRI broadcasts an average of one hour a
day with all its simplicity.
TVRI which is under the Ministry of Information, now its broadcast have reached almost all Indonesian people. Since 1989, TVRI compete
with other TV
stations, namely (RCTI)
Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia, which is commercial. Then successively established
TV stations (SCTV) Surya Citra Televisi
Indonesia, (TPI) Televisi
Pendidikan Indonesia, and (Anteve)
Andalas Television (Ardianto, 2004).
With the presence of RCTI, SCTV, and TPI. So the world of
television in Indonesia have experienced a lot of changes, both in terms of
quality its broadcast and broadcast time. To
further improve the quality of its
broadcast in mid-1993, RCTI
has been aired nationally
and build some
transmission stations in various major cities
in Indonesia, such
as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Batam,
and other areas. Then
the private television stations
increased again with the presence of
Indosiar, Trans TV,
Trans 7, Global
TV, Metro TV
and TV One.
